Cryptocurrency is increasingly becoming part of everyday financial activity in Armenia, with users turning to digital assets not only for trading and investment but also for international transfers, savings and payments.

A survey conducted among more than 100 Binance users from different regions of Armenia in August and September 2026 found that interest in cryptocurrencies is growing, while users continue to have questions about market risks, regulation and their own level of knowledge.

At the same time, almost nine out of ten respondents believe that digital assets will become part of the financial system of the future.

Interest in Cryptocurrency Is Growing in Armenia

According to the survey, 77.1% of respondents said that interest in cryptocurrencies in Armenia has increased.

Among them, 22.9% described the growth as significant.

The change can also be seen in users' behavior. 57.3% of respondents said they have started using cryptocurrencies more actively during the past two years.

These figures indicate that cryptocurrency is moving beyond being viewed exclusively as a speculative asset and is increasingly being considered for practical financial use.

International Transfers and Investments Lead Crypto Use

The survey shows that users are increasingly interested in cryptocurrency as a tool for solving practical financial needs.

When respondents were asked about their current or intended uses of cryptocurrency, they could select multiple options.

The most frequently selected purposes were:

  • International transfers — 56.3%
  • Investments and trading — 55.2%
  • Savings — 45.8%
  • Payments for goods and services — 42.7%
  • Protection against inflation — 19.8%
  • Staking and DeFi — 18.8%

When respondents were asked to identify only their primary purpose, international transfers remained the leading answer at 33.3%.

Payments for goods and services followed at 24%, while investments accounted for 22.9%.

Crypto Is Becoming Part of Personal Finances

For some users, digital assets are already connected to their personal income.

According to the survey, 34.4% of respondents consider cryptocurrency an additional source of income, while 18.8% said that crypto is already their main source of funds.

This suggests that cryptocurrency is being used in different ways by different groups of users—from investment and savings to income generation and international financial activity.

How Do Armenians Perceive Cryptocurrency?

The survey also looked at how respondents personally associate cryptocurrencies.

The most common associations were:

  • Freedom and independence — 27.1%
  • Investments — 22.9%
  • The opportunity to generate income quickly — 21.9%
  • Risk or fraud — 10.4%

The results show that respondents generally associate cryptocurrency with financial opportunities and independence, although concerns about risk and fraud remain part of the overall perception.

Lack of Knowledge Remains a Major Barrier

Despite growing interest, users identified several obstacles preventing wider cryptocurrency adoption.

The most frequently mentioned barrier was lack of knowledge, selected by 38.5% of respondents.

Market risks and volatility came next at 27.1%.

Only 6.3% identified the risk of encountering fraud as the main obstacle.

The survey also highlights what users would like to see change.

The most frequently mentioned priorities were:

  • More knowledge about the crypto market — 28.1%
  • Clearer regulation — 18.8%
  • Simpler user interfaces — 16.7%
  • Higher security — 15.6%
  • Lower fees — 12.5%

Clear Regulation Is Seen as Important for Market Development

Respondents also identified factors that could accelerate the development of the cryptocurrency market in Armenia.

Clear and understandable regulation received the highest share at 29.2%.

This was followed by:

  • simpler user experience — 20.8%;
  • greater institutional adoption — 18.8%.

The findings suggest that users are not only interested in access to digital assets but also in having a clearer and easier environment in which to use them.

What Do Users Expect Over the Next Five Years?

Despite relatively cautious assessments of the current market, respondents expressed strong expectations for future cryptocurrency adoption.

According to the survey:

  • 83.3% believe cryptocurrencies will become more widely used in Armenia over the next 3–5 years.
  • 89.6% believe digital assets will become either fully or partially integrated into the financial system of the future.
  • 42.7% expect cryptocurrencies to become part of their everyday lives within five years.

Respondents identified payments as the most likely area for mass cryptocurrency adoption over the next five years, at 34.4%.

Savings followed with 28.1%, while transfers accounted for 16.7%.

Payments and Transfers Could Become Major Crypto Use Cases

When asked which areas could develop most rapidly, respondents most frequently pointed to payments and transfers, selected by 54.2%.

Other areas mentioned included:

  • NFTs and metaverses — 42.7%;
  • GameFi — 41.7%.

This indicates that users expect cryptocurrency to play a broader role in everyday financial activity rather than remaining limited to trading and investment.

What the Survey Says About the Future of Crypto in Armenia

The survey results point to a shift in how cryptocurrency is being used in Armenia.

International transfers, payments and savings are already among the most frequently identified use cases, while investment and trading remain highly relevant.

At the same time, the results highlight several areas that could influence future adoption: cryptocurrency education, clearer regulation, improved user experience, security and transaction costs.

The survey was conducted among more than 100 Binance users, so its results should be understood as reflecting the views of that respondent group rather than representing the entire Armenian population.

Conclusion

Cryptocurrency use in Armenia appears to be expanding beyond trading and investment.

According to the 2026 Binance user survey, international transfers, investments, savings and payments are among the main ways respondents use or plan to use digital assets.

At the same time, the results show that greater knowledge, clearer regulation, stronger security and simpler user experiences are important areas for the future development of the market.

With 83.3% of respondents expecting broader cryptocurrency adoption in Armenia over the next 3–5 years, digital assets may become increasingly connected to everyday financial activities.
